Duterte, Año, Albayalde support NCRPO chief in outburst against ‘kotong cop’

President Rodrigo Duterte, Interior and Local Government Secretary Eduardo Año, and Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Police General Oscar Albayalde have expressed support on how PNP-National Capital Regional Police Office (NCRPO) chief Police Major General Guillermo Eleazar handled a cop arrested for extortion.

“‘Yung isa was being – ano ni Eleazar and he was criticized for that. Sabihin mo kay – sir, sabihin mo kay Eleazar okay ‘yon. Ah oo. ‘Yung – ay ano ba naman ‘yang ganun-ganun,” President Duterte said on March 6 during the 1st anniversary celebration of Presidential Anti Corruption Commission (PACC).

“Sabi mo I have his back covered. Kasi nung pag-umpisa nitong drug war sinabi ko talaga sa kanya,” Duterte added.

Secretary Año said, in a statement, that he personally supports Police Major General Eleazar “in his drive to rid the NCRPO of kotong cops.”

“While General Eleazar has already publicly apologized, his outburst was understandable given the circumstances. It was a classic case of a “father losing his cool over his son’s misbehavior” with the goal of correcting it and sending a message to his other children that bad behavior will not be tolerated in his household,” Año added.

Police General Albayalde said “for me, that is not enough. There are times when I really get furious and frustrated over the presence of rogue cops despite our internal cleansing.”

“We continue to ask for the media’s help because this way, we can emphasize that we are true and serious in our drive in wiping out scalawags within our ranks,” Albayalde added.
