‘Don’t treat the President like a mushroom’ – Lacson

“Don’t treat the President like a mushroom – kept in the dark and fed with S*^t,” Senator Panfilo M. Lacson said in a statement referring to those “responsible for feeding the President false information”.

Senator Lacson said that those responsible for feeding the President false information, on the exclusion of the Philippines by the European Union (EU) from the vaccine distribution, are doing a great disservice to the nation.

“So, it wasn’t EU’s fault after all. Those feeding the President false information are doing him and the country a disservice and should resign to save us all from international embarrassment,” Lacson said in a post on his Twitter account.

The EU Delegation to the Philippines reassured that the Philippines is exempted from Covid-19 vaccine export control.

“The authorization mechanism for exports of COVID-19 vaccines include a wide range of exemptions from prior authorization, to ensure the EU continues to fully honor its commitments to delivering the vaccine to our direct neighborhood and to 92 low and middle-income countries, including the Philippines, covered by the COVAX facility,” the EU delegation said.

President Rodrigo Duterte said during his February 1 talk to the nation that “the European Commission launched a new mechanism on Friday to monitor and in some cases block — parahin — coronavirus vaccines exports out of the European Union. The European Union has voiced concerns that vaccines could not be sent abroad — could be sent abroad before companies fulfilling obligations in their bloc. Ganoon kadali. Ang atin dito ASEAN but we are not really as powerful as the EU. Eh wala tayong connection, wala tayong mga — wala tayong pera. May pera tayo pero naka-ready lang, standby.”

Presidential Spokesperson Secretary Harry Roque said the President will not retract his statement. “Kasi kinakailangan naman talaga ng paglilinaw. Kasi ang lumalabas ay nagkakaroon nga po ng vaccine nationalism no. At iyon po ang isyu na inilabas ng ating Presidente, ngayong nagkaroon ng ganiyang paglilinaw, we appreciate it. Pero kung hindi po nagsalita ang Presidente, hindi sila magbibigay ng linaw na ganiyan,” Secretary Roque said.
