Domestic sea and air travel to and from Metro Manila suspended: Duterte

President Rodrigo Duterte announced, during a public address evening of March 12, the raising of COVID19 alert to Code Red sub-level 2.

Moreover, the President said land, domestic sea and air travel to and from Metro Manila will be suspended from March 15 to April 14, 2020. The President noted that this will be subject to daily review of the inter-agency task force.

Class suspension in Metro Manila is also extended up to April 12. The President also highlighted the importance of social distancing.

However, in the public address, the President urged the people not to panic. He said the government is doing its best to make COVID19 controllable.

Presidential spokesperson Salvador Panelo earlier said that the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) convened this morning, March 12, and its members came into an agreement to adopt a resolution containing the implementation of measures intended to contain the spread of the coronavirus, as proposed by a Technical Advisory Group led by Dr. Edsel Salvana, submitted to President Rodrigo Duterte for approval.
