Department of National Defense (DND) Secretary Delfin Lorenzana led the oath taking of James A. Layug, the new Defense Assistant Secretary for Installations and Self-Reliant Defense Posture, on July 2 at the EDSA Lounge of DND in Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City.
Layug is a member of PMA Class of 1995.
“His most recent government post was Director of Port Operations Service, AOCG and Chief of the Anti-Smuggling Unit of the Office of the Commissioner at the Bureau of Customs. He was a former military officer with the rank of Lieutenant Senior Grade in the Philippine Navy, wherein he served for 20 years,” DND said.
“Now, I am here appointed to be part of this great institution. I would like to thank President Rodrigo Roa Duterte for the trust and confidence he has placed on me. I would like to thank Secretary Lorenzana and the One Defense Team for accepting me as a member of the family,” Layug said.
Secretary Lorenzana also installed Retired Major General Angelito M. De Leon as Assistant Secretary for Plans and Programs on June 21.
De Leon, PMA Class of 1984, is a former commander of the 7th Infantry Division of the Philippine Army based in Fort Magsaysay, in Nueva Ecija. He also held positions in AFP like Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations (J3) and Chief of the AFP Command Center.
