A 5-member delegation headed by National Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana concluded a visit to India on March 11. The visit to India started March 8.
Secretary Lorenzana was welcomed by India Defense Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. A bilateral meeting was held.
According to Indian Embassy in Manila, Lorenzana and Sitharaman discussed ways to enhance defense relations between India and Philippines across broad spectrum. India and Philippines signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Defense Industry and Logistics Cooperation in November 2017.
Secretary Lorenzana also visited defense establishment and defense equipment production centers in India, the Indian Embassy in Manila said.
According to MaxDefense Philippines, citing a source, Lorenzana visited Indian shipyards.
“According to our source, the SND was said to be “impressed” with Indian defense products,” Maxdefense said. “Also, our source confirmed that the AFP, especially the Philippine Navy, had been advised to speed up their preparations for Horizon 2 acquisitions, as they want to make use of the G2G (government-to-government) portion that will come with the upgraded defense agreement with India.”
