Defense chief visits Austal’s shipyard

National Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana together with high ranking military officials visited Austal Philippines in Balamban, Cebu on September 12.

“In this visit, Austal Philippines’ workforce proudly presented to the delegates our passion and capabilities in building world class ships,” Austal Philippines said.

“These VIP guests also witnessed ongoing works of the yard’s expansion due for completion end of this year,” it added.

Secretary Lorenzana said in August that the Philippines is in talks with Austal for supply of six offshore patrol vessels (OPVs) for the Philippine Navy.

“We have an offshore-patrol vessel order [for the Navy], six of which would be built here in the country. It will be built by Austal, which is a subsidiary of Austal in Australia, in Balamban, Cebu,” he said.
