Crew of future BRP Jose Rizal needs another 14-day quarantine

“We recommended it to be postponed to another date,” Philippine Navy chief Vice Admiral Giovanni Carlo Bacordo said regarding the commissioning of future BRP Jose Rizal (FF150).

The reason cited by the Navy chief was the crew of the frigate needs to undergo another quarantine period after one of the crew members initially tested positive for COVID-19, but tested negative for the confirmatory test.

“Though he was tested negative, the whole ship will have to undergo 14 days of quarantine based on the time that he was tested positive,” Bacordo said.

Initial testing was done June 4. All crew members underwent testing for COVID-19 after completing the first 14-day quarantine period. The future BRP Jose Rizal arrived from South Korea on May 23 after five days of voyage.

President Rodrigo Duterte is set to attend the frigate’s commissioning ceremony.
