Contract to upgrade Navy’s Del Pilar vessels signed

Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana witnessed the signing of contract for the upgrade of the Del Pilar Class Frigate (DPCF) between the PHILIPPINE NAVY and Hanwha Systems, Incorporated, represented by COMMO CAESAR BERNARD N VALENCIA and CEO JANG SIKWON, respectively, at the Grand Hyatt Hotel Event Hall, BGC, Taguig City on August 27.

Pursuant to the contract, Hanwha Systems shall upgrade all three ships in this class, namely: BRP Gregorio Del Pilar, BRP Ramon Alcaraz, and BRP Andres Bonifacio, in aspects of combat management system, electronic support, sonar capability, among others.

More importantly, the capability enhancements to be undertaken will ensure interoperability with the Philippine Navy’s modern ships, especially with with the features of the new frigates that the Navy has recently acquired.

Minister Wang Junghong, Commissioner of South Korea’s Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) and Ambassador Han Dongman congratulated both parties for the successful commencement of another project that seeks to boost the PN’s operational capability.

Also present during the significant event were Philippines’ Defense Assistant Secretary Logistics and Acquisitions Jesus Rey R. Avilla, Vice Admiral Robert A. Empedrad, and other officials of the Philippine Navy.

Afterwards, Sec. Lorenzana received the symbolic donation of one building to house the Philippine Navy’s Simulator Training Center from Hanwha. DND/Secretary Delfin Lorenzana
