Coast Guard eyes Russian machine guns, armaments

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) is eyeing acquisition of Russian trucks, machine guns and other armaments worth PHP1 billion, PCG commandant Rear Admiral Elson E. Hermogino said on February 9.

The acquisition is being eyed under a Military-Technical Cooperation agreement being forged with the Russian government.

“It has been arranged in the previous administration. It’s about the procurement of some armaments for our people and our ships,” Hermogino said as quoted by

The Coast Guard chief said the proposed agreement needs to be approved by the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).

“Once the DFA approves our draft MOA, then we will proceed with the procurement,” Rear Admiral Hermogino said.

The proposed agreement was tackled during the courtesy call of Russian Ambassador Igor Khovaev to Rear Hermogino at the National Headquarters Philippine Coast Guard on February 5.
