The armed forces of People’s Republic of China, the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) has accused the United States of trespassing into the Paracel Islands with its Arleigh Burke-class destroyer USS McCampbell (DDG-85) on March 10.

The United States Navy is regularly conducting freedom of navigation and overflight operations in the West Philippine Sea and the entire South China Sea.

In response to USS McCampbell, Senior Colonel Li Huamin said the Southern Theater Command (STC) of the Chinese PLA organized naval and air forces to track, verify, identify, and warn the ship away.

Li said that the US has kept flexing muscles and stirring up troubles in the South China Sea under the pretext of freedom of navigation.

He also denounced the US Navy’s action as supremacy violating international law and called the US a “source of chaos” that threatens the peace and stability in the South China Sea.

“China owns indisputable sovereignty over the Xisha Islands and their adjacent waters,” Li said, adding that the Chinese military will stay on high alert and take all necessary measures to protect national sovereignty and security and safeguard peace and stability in the South China Sea.
