Chinese destroyer sends warm message to Japanese warship in South China Sea

Chinese PLA Navy Luyang-II class guided-missile destroyer Lanzhou has sent a warm friendly greetings to Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) helicopter carrier JS Kaga (DDH-184).

Japanese state broadcaster NHK reported that the encounter happened last month in South China Sea.

NHK said that upon seeing the Japanese warship, the Chinese warship sent a radio message saying “Good morning, glad to see you.”

It can be recalled that JS Kaga docked in Zambales last month with JMSDF Escort Flotilla Four. President Rodrigo Duterte visited the Japanese warship during the said goodwill visit.

The Japanese flotilla’s visit last month is Japan’s way to enhance its operational capability, promote cooperation, and facilitate interoperability with partner navies in South Asia and Southeast Asia.
