Chinese Coast Guard only observed Pinoy vessel with news team – WESCOM

Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Western Command (WESCOM) commander Vice Admiral Ramil Roberto Enriquez has said that based on the known capabilities of Chinese Coast Guard (CCG) vessel, it would be able to overtake the Filipino vessel with ABS-CBN News team aboard if it intended to during the April 9 incident.

“Kung talagang hinabol kayo no’n, madali niya kayong inabutan – inoobserbahan lang kayo no’n,” Vice Admiral Enriquez said as quoted by ABS-CBN News. “If we follow the dictum of ‘flight is an admission of guilt,’ bigla kayong umalis eh.”

However, Vice Admiral Enriquez noted that it was the first time Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Navy deployed the Type 22 missile boats east of Ayungin Shoal to sail towards mainland Palawan.

The WESCOM chief added that they cannot see any reason why the Chinese Navy deployed such type of asset at that time.

“This is the first time, kaya gusto namin malaman ‘yung exact location na kung saan nangyari ‘yung paghabol,” Enriquez said.
