China reportedly held missile test near Spratlys

The Chinese military has conducted missile test from man-made structures in West Philippine Sea, the United States Department of Defense said as reported by Reuters.

“Of course the Pentagon was aware of the Chinese missile launch from the man-made structures in the South China Sea near the Spratly Islands,” Pentagon spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Dave Eastburn said as quoted by Reuters.

“I’m not going to speak on behalf of all the sovereign nations in the region, but I’m sure they agree that the PRC’s behavior is contrary to its claim to want to bring peace to the region and obviously actions like this are coercive acts meant to intimidate other claimants,” he added.

When asked for comment, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Geng Shuang referred the question Chinese military.

National Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana said the Philippines will conduct investigation regarding the missile test. “We have no first-hand knowledge about this missile launch except this news report. We will conduct our own inquiry and will decide later what to do if proven correct,” he said.
