Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Geng Shuang said on August 20 that China appreciates Philippine government’s move in suspending issuance of new licenses to Philippine offshore gaming operators (POGOs).
“We hope the Philippines will go further and ban all online gambling,” Geng added.
“We hope it will further strengthen law enforcement with China and jointly tackle criminal activities including online gambling and cyber fraud. This will help create an enabling environment for our bilateral relations and peace and stability in the region,” he added.
Presidential Spokesperson and Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Secretary Salvador Panelo said on August 19 that “until the President reverses the stand of PAGCOR [in suspending application for new POGO licenses], that remains to be the policy. Because the President always respects heads of departments and offices to do their duty and undertaking.”
