The Chinese government, through it embassy in Manila, has donated 50 units of electric motorcycles to the city government of Manila for use of Philippine National Police (PNP) Manila Police District (MPD).
The handover ceremony was held on January 28 and was attended by Chinese Ambassador Zhao Jianhua and Manila City Mayor Joseph Ejercito Estrada.
“Marking the 118th Founding Anniversary of the Manila Police District, the motorcycles, worth around USD 180,000, has showcased an effort of the Chinese Embassy to effectively assist the capacity building of the Manila Police and to fulfill Mayor Estrada’s advocacy of a green and clean city,” the Chinese embassy said.
The embassy added that Ambassador Zhao extend his sincere gratitude and appreciation to the people and the government of Manila City, particularly the Manila Police officers, for their valuable support and assistance during the successful state visit of President Xi Jinping to the Philippines last November.
“After the landmark state visit of President Xi Jinping, we have every reason to expect even greater development of the practical cooperation between China and the Philippines in various sectors , which is bound to bring more tangible benefits to the two people in the days to come,” Zhao said.
MPD will used the motorcycles in patrolling the streets, preventing criminal activity, and securing the safety of the public.
“With this donation, the MPD will be a stronger force, better able to ensure peace and order in our city streets, and with this, we move closer to our goal to recapture Manila’s former glory, and be the Pearl of the Orient once again,” Estrada said.
