China did not seize Sandy Cay near Pag-asa Island: Secretary Delfin

News

National Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana said it is not true that China seized Sandy Cay in West Philippine Sea under the Duterte administration.

“No, it’s not true. It’s still there. It’s within the sight of Pag-asa Island. Nakikita ‘yun doon eh,” Secretary Lorenzana told reporters. “It’s too close to our Pag-asa and they are not occupied by anybody.”

This is after Supreme Court Senior Associate Justice Antonio Carpio said that China already seized Sandy Cay.

National Security Adviser (NSA) Hermogenes Esperon Jr. said during a post-SONA 2019 press conference on July 23 that the Philippines did not lose an island in West Philippine Sea under the Duterte administration.
