BRP Jose Rizal now underway to RIMPAC exercise area

The Philippine Navy’s BRP Jose Rizal (FF-150) is now underway enroute to RIMPAC 2020 exercise area, the Philippine Navy said August 17.

RIMPAC 2020 is kicking off in waters surrounding Hawaii. The US Navy said RIMPAC is a biennial exercise designed to foster and sustain cooperative relationships, critical to ensuring the safety of sea lanes and security in support of a free and open Indo-Pacific region.

The Philippine Navy said “all key components of [Naval Task Group 80.5] shall simultaneously participate in the Surface, Air, Sub-surface and Maritime Security Operations serials of the exercise.”

The Philippine Navy noted that the exercise will give a unique training opportunity for the participating nations to enhance their proficiency to integrate into an international force and improve readiness to contribute to a wide range of potential coalition operations.
