BRP Conrado Yap to formally enter PHL Navy service on August 5

The Philippine Navy’s upcoming BRP Conrado Yap (PS-39), a former Pohang-class corvette donated by South Korea, will officially enter Philippine Navy service in a commissioning ceremony in addition to formal turn over to Navy chief Vice Admiral Robert Empedrad on August 5, MaxDefense Philippines said.

The turn over and commissioning rites will be held in South Korea prior to the ship’s voyage for Philippines.

National Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana confirmed to PNA the turn over on August 5.

“Yes, the BRP Conrado Yap, a Pohang-class donated by the South Korean government will be handed over to the FOIC (flag officer in command) Navy on August 5 and will sail for the Philippines immediately thereafter. This is a second-hand, refurbished frigate,” Secretary Lorenzana said.

In addition, Navy spokesperson Captain Jonathan Zata told PNA that BRP Conrado Yap will be sailing home with BRP Davao Del Sur which recently visited Russia.
