Bridge damaged by December typhoon re-opens

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has announced that the Caraycaray Bridge along Biliran-Naval Circumferential Road in Biliran which was damaged by Typhoon Urduja is now open for 4-wheel light vehicles, motorcycles, and tricycles.

“Following the timeline set by President Duterte, the Caray-Caray bridge in Biliran which was affected by Typhoon Urduja is now open to the public,” Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark Villar said.

DPWH said it has implemented backfilling and embankment works to serve as temporary passage for the public, allowing motorcycles to cross the bridge effective January 11.

“Caraycaray Bridge will also be closed in case Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) issues “Heavy Rainfall Warning” in the area,” DPWH said.

DPWH added that it is now preparing detailed plans and cost estimates for the complete rehabilitation of the damaged bridge under the calamity fund.
