Bomb plot foiled by security forces in Basilan

The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Western Mindanao Command (WESTMINCOM) has reported that a bomb plot was foiled by Joint Task Force Basilan (JTF Basilan) after acting on a reliable information on June 19.

“Acting on a reliable information troops of the Joint Task Force Basilan conducted law enforcement operation which resulted in the recovery of bomb components in Barangay Bohe Pahu, Ungkaya Pukan, Basilan,” WESTMINCOM said.

“Through the support of the community, troops were able to disrupt the bomb plot of the local terrorist group in Basilan,” WESTMINCOM said.

The operating troops recovered three 60mm mortar UXOs with wires, one improvised blasting cap, and one Baofeng commercial radio converted into remote control switch.

Recovered explosives were turned over to 39th Explosive Ordnance Division Team for proper disposition. WESTMINCOM said a thorough investigation is being conducted by security forces.

“We are extending our appreciation to the people of Basilan. Truly, the participation of the populace is very vital in our efforts against the local terrorist group and other lawless elements,” said Brigadier General Fernando Reyeg, JTF Basilan Commander.

“While our troops continuously operate to disrupt enemy’s ploys, we urge everyone to be more vigilant,” said Lieutenant General Cirilito Sobejana, WESTMINCOM Commander. “Let us continue to help one another to prevent the terrorists from sowing terror in the communities.”
