Balangiga bells arriving December 11

The Department of National Defense (DND) has announced that the Balangiga bells are set to arrive in the Philippines on December 11. A turn over ceremony will be held at the Philippine Air Force (PAF) Grandstand in Villamor Air Base, Pasay City.

“The three bells will finally return home, 117 years after these were taken from the town of Balangiga, Eastern Samar and brought to the United States by American soldiers during the Philippine-American War in 1901,” the DND said.

According to National Defense Secretary Delfin N. Lorenzana, President Rodrigo Duterte will attend the turn over.

“There will be three speeches, one from Secretary James Mattis to be read by his representative, then Ambassador Kim, and me,” Lorenzana told reporters at the sidelines of the Pilipinas Conference organized by the Stratbase Albert del Rosario Institute in Makati City.
