Balangay expedition from Xiamen, China welcomed

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) today, May 22 welcomed at Manila Yacht Club the 2018 Balangay Expedition Team aboard balangay wooden sailboats Samang Tawi-Tawi, Lahing Maharlika, and Sultan Sin Sulu which completed 22-day voyage from Xiamen, China.

PCG said former President Fidel Valdez Ramos graced the event as the guest of honor together with Supreme Court Justice Antonio Carpio and other pertinent guests.

“The Balangay Expedition aims to commemorate a voyage in 1417 taken by Sultan Paduka Pahala for being the first sultanate of Sulu in which the Philippine Coast Guard takes pride as 16 of its personnel is part of the said historical voyage,” PCG said.

The PCG said 16 of the 2018 Balangay Expedition Team are part of the voyage.

The said expedition was welcomed on May 19 at Poro Point, La Union by PCG District Northwestern Luzon.
