Australia’s new defence attaché visits Philippine Marines

Australia’s new Defence Attaché to the Philippines Colonel Paul Barta paid a courtesy call to Philippine Marine Corps (PMC) commandant Major General Ariel R. Caculitan on February 11.

According to the Marines, Colonel Barta and Major General Caculitan discussed the two countries’ shared interests in security and explored ways to strengthen cooperation.

“Australia has been a strong ally of the Philippine Marine Corps with continuous military exchanges and technical assistance,” the Marines said.

According to the Marines, prior to his stint in the Philippines, Colonel Barta served as Australia’s defence attaché in Cambodia. He also had operational deployments in Bougainville, Iraq, and Afghanistan.
