Army troopers provide first aid to wounded NPA in attempt to preserve life

Troops of 36th Infantry Battalion (36IB) operating under Philippine Army’s 4th Infantry Division (4ID) provided first aid treatment to preserve the life of an NPA member after a 15-minute running gun battle at Brgy. Cancavan, Carmen, Surigao del Sur on May 19.

“In the hope to save his life, around 06:15 in the evening, troops successfully extricated the wounded CNT along with his three (3) dead comrades and was rushed immediately to Madrid District Hospital in the municipality of Madrid of same province but unfortunately he was pronounce Dead On Arrival by the attending physician, Dr Mary Michelle Paganpan,” 4ID said in a report published on Kalinaw News.

Troops of 36IB also recovered three (3) AK47 rifles, two (2) M16 Rifles, two (2) long magazines for M16, three (3) cellular phones, assorted ammunition and subversive documents.

“We extend our deepest sympathies to the bereaved families of those NPA’s killed. It is disheartening that CPP-NPA Terrorist will just leave their comrades behind. We will coordinate to the local government unit and the local authorities to ensure that the killed CNTs will be delivered to their families for proper burial,” 36IB commander Lieutenant Colonel Xerxes A. Trinidad said.

“It is has been my unit’s commitment to the peace-loving Surigaonons to deliver and preserve peace and security in the province. Let us unite our efforts in addressing this 50-long and wasted year of insurgency. It is not too late. I urge the remaining CNT’s to lay down their arms and return to the folds of the law. Embrace peace in resolving issues and avail the government’s intervention program, the Enhance Comprehensive and Local Integration Program (E-CLIP),” Lieutenant Colonel Trinidad added.
