Philippine Army 6th Infantry Division said that firefights between the troops of 2nd Mechanized Infantry Battalion under the Command of Lieutenant Colonel Alvin Iyog and Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF), Daesh-Inspired terror group in the areas of Shariff Saydona Mustapha and Datu Saudi Ampatuan all in Maguindanao has erupted on July 1.
6ID said a firefight transpired at around 8:00 o’clock in the morning with the undetermined number of fully armed men while government troops were conducting combat clearing operations in Brgy Pamalian, Shariff Saydona Mustapha.
A firefight also occurred at around 8:30 in the morning between combined troops of 2nd Mechanized Infantry Battalion, 57th Infantry Battalion and 64th Division Reconnaissance Company and more or less 40 BIFF and Daesh-Inspired terror group in Brgy. Pusao in same municipality.
At around 10 o’clock in the morning, the troops of Lieutenant Colonel Iyog was able to occupy and clear enemy encampment in Brgy Pusao.
601st Brigade Commander Brigadier General Diosdado Carreon said Lieutenant Colonel Iyog and his men were able to ran into one of the heavily fortified enemy encampment from which terrorists were attacking.
Civilian residents said that fatalities from BIFF were seen in the area of engagements.
Firefights continued to the next day.
Troops from 57th Infantry Battalion were also engaged at around 3:30 in the afternoon in Brgy Pamalian, Shariff Saydona Mustapha and at around 5 o’clock in the afternoon with more or less 20 BIFF members that resulted to the killing of one army trooper and one wounded in action.
“The ultimate sacrifice of our soldier is remarkably sober, just to ensure the safety and security of its civilian communities either he stands at times of challenge and danger,” Joint Task Force Central Commander Brigadier General Cirilito Sobejana said.
Brigadier General Sobejana added they will go after the bandits to safeguard the civilians and put an end to this menace of society.
