According to AFP, the traditional Champagne Flight is accorded to honor retiring AFP senior officers or flag ranks.

General Santos was welcomed with fitting honors led by Philippine Air Force (PAF) commanding general Lieutenant General Allen T. Paredes.

“Upon landing, General Santos was awarded the PAF Gold Wings in a momentous ceremony. He then thanked the troops for their cooperation throughout his leadership and urged them to continue serving the country selflessly,” the AFP said.

General Santos will be replace by Philippine Army commanding general Lieutenant General Gilbert I. Gapay on August 3 when General Santos retires.
