Año says some Cabinet, PSG members received COVID-19 vaccine

Interior and Local Government Secretary Eduardo Año said in an interview with TeleRadyo on December 28 that he knows some from the Cabinet and from the Presidential Security Group (PSG) already received COVID-19 vaccine.

“Yung mga gamot na ‘yan, tinatawag natin na may EUA ‘yan eh, ‘yung tinatawag na emergency use authorization. So kahit na hindi pa ‘yan formally and finally approved, in times of pandemic, pwede gamitin ‘yan ng mga tinatawag nating health workers and frontliners,” the interior and local government secretary said.

However, when asked for names of those who have received COVID-19 vaccine, Secretary Año said he does not want to violate privacy and confidentiality.

“Meron nga ho, I will confirm that pero hindi ko lang pwedeng sabihin yung pangalan nila unless sila mismo. But there are, kasi mga frontliners naman ito lalo na siguro sa PSG na sila yung nagpoprotekta sa Pangulo,” he explained.

President Rodrigo Duterte said on December 26 – during his meeting with selected members of his Cabinet along with infectious disease experts to discuss the emerging fast-spreading new variant of Coronavirus (Covid-19) disease found in the United Kingdom – “marami na ang nagpa-injection dito sa Sinopharm.”

“I have to be frank and I have to tell the truth. I will not foist a lie. Marami nang nagpatusok and lahat. Up to now, wala akong narinig sa — for the select few — not all soldiers, not all soldiers, hindi pa kasi policy eh. If it’s a policy now to have them injected with… Pero gusto ko mauna sila because I do not want a sickly Armed Forces and a sickly police. The reason why is that they have to be in good health all the time because they are responsible for the law and order of this country,” the President added.
