Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade told airport ground handling companies, manpower service providers, and airport security services to clean up their ranks within five days. This is after President Rodrigo Duterte warned airport officials that they will be terminated if another baggage theft will happen in airports.
“I’m giving you five days to clean your ranks. Send me the list of your employees and guards. Kapag meron dyan na may record o kaso, tanggal buong kumpanya,” Tugade told airport officials earlier today.
Tudage said that service providers will be held liable if their people will be involved in theft and other illegal activities.
“Kapag may kasalanan ang tao nila, lalo higit sa droga at pagnanakaw, the company should also be held liable. I will put at stake their license to do business. I will suspend or terminate their contract,” Tugade said.
Pockets, cellphone, and jewelry are now among the things prohibited. “Para saan ba yung cellphone? Dapat radyo lang ang hawak nila,” Tugade explained. “Yung iba pa, papasok na walang alahas, pag labas meron na.”
On January 18, President Duterte made public his warning. “Before I came here, I called for the managers – si Art Tugade was there at ‘yung mga taga-Clark pati taga-NAIA at ‘yung mga pulis doon,” he said during the launching of Overseas Filipino Bank.
“Sinabi ko sa manager, ‘yan dalawa, in front of Tugade, I said: A similar and one more incident and all of you will go. Look for another job. Be sure na walang zipper mabukas diyan,” the President said.
