9 Police officers relieved in Manila over illegal vendors problem

Nine police officers from Manila Police District Station 11 were relieved from post for failing to address the problem on illegal vendors in Binondo, Manila.

“It’s either you are sleeping on the job or you are now engaging [collecting bribe money from ‘organizers]’,” Manila Mayor Isko Moreno said during a news conference on July 8.

“It seems [at] certain time of the day pag talikod ko – uniformed personel engage with so-called organizers or barnagay officials,” he said. “Saan kayo nakakita na ang barangay chairman, utusan ang colonel? Saan kayo nakakita na ang barangay chairman, utusan ang major?”

“I will not stop. I will not hesitate, The people of Manila deserve better things form the city government of Manila,” he noted.

Among the relieved police officers are Lt. Col. Antonietto Eric Mendoza, Maj. Robinson Maranion, Maj. Alden Panganiban, Cpt. Jerry Garces, Cpt. Bernardino Venturina, Cpt. Manuel Calleja, Lt. Jerry Campo, Lt. Maricel Pili, and Lt. Maribel Casayuran.
