The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) has announced that 9 persons deprived of liberty (PDL) or inmates and 9 personnel at the Quezon City jail have tested positive for COVID-19.
“We have nine PDL and nine personnel who were tested positive for COVID-19,” BJMP spokesperson Jail Chief Inspector Xavier Solda said as quoted by GMA News Online April 17.
“As far as our personnel is concerned, naka-lockdown naman na po sila, March 20, kaya walang dapat ipag-alala ang kanilang pamilya pati na ang publiko,” Solda added. “Doon sa siyam na PDL natin, more than a week ago dinala na po ‘yan sila sa isolation facility sa Payatas.”
Solda noted that their personnel who are affected were advised to undergo home quarantine. “Hindi naman severe ‘yung symptoms nila. Nandoon pa rin ‘yung common symptoms na sore throat, may mga may ubo pa rin sa kanila. They were advised na mag-home quarantine muna,” he said.
“We are doing an extensive contact tracing,” the BJMP spokesperson said. “We have a team assigned to it.”
“We will continue caring for the infected PDL until they are fully recovered and fit enough to be reintegrated to their respective cells,” he added.
