The Philippine Coast Guard’s seventh Japan-made Parola-class Multi-role Response Vessel (MRRV) is now in Manila, as confirmed by multiple sources including MarineTraffic.com and MaxDefense Philippines.
PCG’s 7th Parola-class vessel will be officially known as Barko ng Republika ng Pilipinas (BRP) Cape San Agustin (MRRV-4408). (4405 was skipped; 4+4+0+5=13)
Parola-class vessels are 44-meter ships ordered from Japan Marine United through the Maritime Safety Capability Improvement Project (MSCIP) for PCG Phase 1.
MSCIP for PCG Phase 1 was funded through Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) official development assistance (ODA) loan.
This project will supply 10 44-meter vessels to PCG to strengthen its coast watch/patrol and search and rescue capabilities. 6 Parola-class MRRVs are already in active service.
According to Department of Transportation (DOTr), another Parola-class vessel will arrive within this month.
