Seven of twenty-three arrested individuals who figured in separate cases of illegal discharge of firearms during the holiday season are police personnel, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said.

“The seven are among 23 persons arrested nationwide when police units responded to 26 separate reports of illegal discharge of firearms in revelry during the period December 16, 2018 until 6:00 AM of January 1, 2019,” the PNP said.

It added that other arrested individuals include two government officials, one military serviceman, ten civilians, two security guards, and one law enforcement agent.

“As I have promised, there will be no mercy for errant personnel who will fire their guns to celebrate the holidays,” Police Director General Oscar D. Albayalde said.

“The full might of the law will be applied to these trigger-happy gun owners upon observance of all requirements of due process,” he added.

Senator Panfilo M. Lacson said that no less than a quick boot will do for at least seven trigger-happy policemen who were caught firing their guns during the holiday season.

“What if someone got hit and died, or paralyzed? Damn these scumbags! They have no purpose in life, really. Give them the boot ASAP, Chief,” Lacson said.
