Not less than 5 members of Daesh-inspired terrorists belonging to Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) terror group under King Metin of Bungos faction in Maguindanao were killed in a continuing focused military operation June 11, the 6th Infantry Division (6ID) of Philippine Army said.
6ID said the terrorists were killed in a 35-minutes encounter with the troops of 57th Infantry Battalion at around 8:30 in the evening in Brgy Meta, Datu Unsay, Maguindanao.
“A civilian resident relayed an information to the army that the terrorist group will launch an attack to the army detachments from any opportune time in retaliation of their setbacks on the continuing pursuit operation in Liguasan marsh. This prompted the troops to be alerted to disrupt the terror plot,” 6ID said.
Two cadavers were recovered by government troops during the clearing operations, while 3 others were brought by their comrades and buried in So Lab, Bgy Kuloy, Shariff Aguak Maguindanao.
The troops also recovered M16 rifle, M653 rifle, M203 grenade launcher, magazines and ammunition.
“Another encounter transpired in Brgy Limpongo, Datu Hoffer of the same province when other BIFF members attacked the military detachment in Brgy Limpongo at around 9:00p.m. on the same day with no casualties on the government side,” 6ID said.
After the exchange of fires, men armed with M16 rifle riding in in motorcycle fired deliberately at a civilian community of the same barangay killing Ricky Udas, a resident in the area.
“We extend our deepest condolences to the family of the innocent civilian killed in the incident caused by the barbaric acts of the BIFF terror group,” 6ID Commander Brigadier General Cirilito E. Sobejana said.
Brigadier General Sobejana said that the continuing military operation is well-coordinated in specific engagement areas to prevent, as much as possible, civilians from being affected and harm.
601st Brigade Commander Brigadier General Diosdado C. Carreon said that the terroristic activities against military, police, and civilians were pre-empted due to pro-active measures we have been conducting with the help of the communities who deride conflict and violent extremism.
