3 Donated Japanese aircraft arriving in March

The final three of five donated Beechcraft King Air TC-90 aircraft by the Japanese government are scheduled to arrive third week of March, Department of National Defense (DND) spokesperson Arsenio Andolong said.

These aircraft are expected to arrive in Philippine Navy Naval Air Group headquarters in Sangley Point, Cavite City.

The initial two TC-90 aircraft arrived March 27, 2017. TC-90 with tail number 390 was activated on November 21, 2017.

On January 31, 2018, TC-90 with tail number 390 conducted its first patrol mission over Bajo De Masinloc also known as Panatag (Scarborough) Shoal in West Philippine Sea.

A total of 5 Japanese TC-90 aircraft were first agreed by Japanese and Philippine governments to be leased at a very friendly price, however, due to change in Japanese policy, donation of these aircraft was allowed.

Donation of these aircraft was tackled by National Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana and Japanese Defense Minister Itsunori Onodera in October 2017 at the sidelines of ASEAN Defense Ministers Meeting (ADMM) and related meetings in Clark.

Japan Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and President Rodrigo Duterte also tackled the donation during their meeting at the sidelines of ASEAN Summit and related summits in November 2017 in Manila.

The Agreement Concerning the Transfer of Defense Equipment and Technology between Philippines and Japan signed by former Defense Secretary Voltaire T. Gazmin and Ambassador Kazuhide Ishikawawas in February 29, 2016 paved the way for the transfer of said aircraft.
