Two Gaia Amir 4×4 Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAPs) ordered for the Philippine National Police (PNP) Special Action Force (SAF) have arrived for delivery, MaxDefense Philippines confirmed November 29.
“These vehicles were delivered to the PNP-SAF and are expected to be officially handed over in a private ceremony soon,” MaxDefense noted.
The 2 MRAPs equipped with assault ramp were acquired through Multi-Purpose Armored Personnel Carrier (MPAPC) and Accessories Acquisition Project of PNP-SAF.
Notice of Award for the said project was released in December 2018 in favor of Stone of David Corporation – Israeli GAIA Automotive Industries Ltd. joint venture.
The project is supplying PNP-SAF with two (2) units MPAPC with mobile assault ramp; seven (7) units MPAPC with multi-weapon remote controlled weapon station (RCWS), 40mm automatic grenade launcher and caliber 50 heavy machine gun with spare barrel; seven (7) units MPAPC with multi-weapon remote controlled weapon station (RCWS) and caliber 50 heavy machine gun with spare barrel; 103,000 rounds caliber 50 linked ammunition; 7,000 rounds 40mm grenade linked ammunition; and 6 towing bars.
