1st after Marawi siege: MSU conducts graduation rites

News

Mindanao State University (MSU) has conducted its first graduation ceremony in its main campus in Marawi City after the siege. MSU is located approximately 5 kilometers from the main battle zone.

According to Philippine Information Agency (PIA), a total of 1,100 students from different colleges of MSU received their diplomas.

“No matter how far you go, you can always go back to the fact that batch 2018 is the batch that literally survived a siege. Be proud that you are unconquered, just like your Mindanaoan ancestors,” Senate Committee on Local Government Chairman Senator Sonny Angara told the graduates during the ceremony.

Senator Angara was the guest speaker.

“In the coming days, your participation and support will surely be needed. Marawi must rise again,” he added.

PIA said due to the siege, MSU main campus had to conduct its graduation rites outside the city last July, a first in its 56 years of operation.
