Tugade meets new Japanese ambassador to Philippines

Newly-installed Japanese Ambassador to the Philippines Kazuhiko Koshikawa paid a courtesy visit to Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Arthur Tugade on December 21.

According to DOTr, Secretary Tugade underscored the Philippines’ good relationship with Japan.

“I would like to convey the appreciation of the Department of Transportation for the offer and efforts of the Japanese Government in helping us with our railway projects which President Rodrigo Roa Duterte consider as one of the many primary flagship projects. I consider the help of JICA in helping us push the projects,” Secretary Tugade said.

Ambassador Koshikawa conveyed sympathies to the Filipino people, especially those who who were severely affected by the calamities’ and the on-going Coronavirus 2019.

“Natural calamities are common experiences for both of us. One difference we have is that you have more resources to handle the problem. That is why for us, Philippines, it is important to have partner countries like Japan, for people like you who always extend a helping hand to our Filipino government and nation,” Tugade said.

Ambassador Koshikawa also congratulated the transportation secretary for the good news that he was able to read from media publications last week, featuring the increased speed of the Metro Rail Transit Line-3 (MRT-3).

Tugade thanked the efforts of Japanese maintenance and rehabilitation contractor Sumitomo-MHI-TESP.
