Two cadavers of Communist Terrorists were recovered following a clash with the military in Purok 5, Barangay Batayan, Kalawit, Zamboanga del Norte in the afternoon of July 10, 2020.

Combined elements of the 44th, 97th, and 42nd Infantry Battalions were responding to a report from civilians of the presence of armed individuals in the forested area of their barangay. After which, a heavy encounter ensued that lasted for 45 minutes.

While clearing the encounter site, troops recovered an enemy cadaver, one M16 rifle, one AK47 assault rifle, several ammunitions, medicines and terrorists’ propaganda materials and personal belongings.

“The people of Zamboanga del Norte are now united in their resolve that all Communist Terrorists are not welcome in their communities through the declaration of Persona Non Grata,” 102nd Infantry Brigade Commander Col. Leonel Nicolas stated.

Meanwhile, while in pursuit of the fleeing CTs, troops recovered another enemy cadaver in the morning of July 11.

The two slain CTG members were identified by their former comrades who are now reintegrated to the mainstream society.

“Our true enemy here is the ideology which is being instilled by the CTG in the innocent minds of the people in the communities. With the Executive Order No. 70 and NTF-ELCAC, we aim to bridge the gap between the vulnerable communities and the government to make CTG insignificant in our society,” said Maj. Gen. Generoso Ponio, Commander, JTF ZamPeLan.

“While we continue to fight against the invisible enemy, we are also exhausting all means to pin down the remaining terrorists in our area of operation,” said Lt. Gen. Cirilito Sobejana, WestMinCom Commander.

“Rest assured that our efforts to disallow the enemies to thrive in the communities will never falter,” Lt. Gen. Sobejana added. WESTERN MINDANAO COMMAND
