Troops pay tribute to fallen airmen in Zamboanga City

Three of the four fallen airmen who will be airlifted to Manila were accorded with departure honors at Edwin Andrews Air Base Thursday afternoon, September 17.

Maj. Gen. Corleto Vinluan, Jr., WestMinCom Commander, led the send-off ceremony. He was joined by TOW-WestMin Commander Brig. Gen. Cresenciano Marquez III, WestMinCom Deputy Commander for Admin Brig. Gen. Antonio Nafarrete, other officers, and the men and women of the Air Combat Command and Tactical Operations Wing-Western Mindanao.

Maj. Jessie Miller, 1st Lieutenant Mack-ar Ferrer, and SSg Miguel Banas Jr. were killed during the air mishap in Lantawan Basilan yesterday afternoon, September 16.

Military honors will also be rendered to Airman 2Cl Benedicto Leal, Jr. before his remains will be transported to his hometown in Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay.

“Team WestMinCom commiserates with the family of the fallen airmen who dedicated their lives in serving their fellow Filipinos,” said Maj. Gen. Vinluan, Jr.

“Our salute to Maj. Miller, 1Lt. Ferrer, SSg. Bañas, and A2C Leal for their gallantry and heroism,” the commander added.
