Police General Eleazar assures intensified war on drugs

Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief, Police General Guillermo Lorenzo T Eleazar assured that law enforcement agencies have intensified and further doubled efforts in waging the war on drugs, particularly in eradicating shabu or methamphetamine hydrochloride.

PGen Eleazar was reacting to a United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) report which said that shabu remains the main problem of anti-illegal drug units in the Philippines.

The PNP Chief said that efforts of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and the PNP Drug Enforcement Group (PDEG) have made a considerable dent in the country’s illegal drug trade, particularly where shabu is concerned.

Recently, a total of P68 million worth of shabu was confiscated in a police buy-bust operation in Cebu City, which also resulted in the killing of three drug suspects.   In the UNODC report, it was stated that shabu continues to flow into the country from its neighboring states.

PGen Eleazar said the PNP has long tasked concerned police units, including the Maritime Group, to heighten border security measures to prevent the entry of illegal drugs.

PNP.GOV.PH
