The Philippine Army and the Australian Army continued to forge military ties amid the COVID-19 pandemic on Wednesday, August 12, 2020.
Through a telephone call, Philippine Army Commanding General Lt. Gen. Cirilito Sobejana and the Australian Chief of Army Lt. Gen. Rick Burr discussed matters on COVID-19 efforts, current security environment, and the status of future PH-AUS activities.
Sobejana shared that the PA is looking forward and working hard to have a terror-free country. He mentioned that joint efforts are done in order to counter terrorism that has been continuously evolving and even affecting nations globally. Further, Sobejana thanked Burr for being the first Chief of Army to congratulate him on his assumption as the new CGPA.
Burr adds that the connection between the two armies have a very good framework to address the evolving nature of terrorism. He mentioned that the strategic environment of the region allow developments to be shared and thus, both armies should work more closely together, have a shared understanding of the threats and changes in the environment.
Additionally, both chiefs shared the two armies’ practices and efforts on COVID19 and hoped to meet personally in the future. They again expressed PA and AUS Army’s commitment to remain well-engaged and pursue mutually beneficial activities for both armies. PHILIPPINE ARMY
