The said helicopters form part of the PAF Combat Utility Helicopters Acquisition Project, under the Horizon 2 of the Revised AFP Modernization Program.

The acquisition of additional helicopters aims to address the capability shortfall in heli-lift operations, as well as assist various government agencies in boosting national development, search and rescue operations, and disaster relief missions.

After the program proper, our transport, defense and Air Force chiefs invited Chargé d’affaires ad interim Janus Roman Szczepankiewicz of the Embassy of Poland in the actual blessing and champagne pouring of the helicopters.

DOTr officials who joined Secretary Tugade in the event were DOTr Undersecretary for Finance Garry De Guzman, Office for Transportation Security (OTS) Administrator Usec. Raul Del Rosario, Chief of Staff and Assistant Secretary for Procurement and Project Implementation Giovanni Lopez, Assistant Secretary for Aviation and Airports Jaime Melo, Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) Director General Jim Sydiongco, and CAAP OIC Deputy Director General for Administration John Estavillo.
