Philippines-India hold 3rd Joint Defense Cooperation Committee

Defense Assistant Secretary for Assessments and International Affairs Teodoro Cirilo T. Torralba III co-chaired the meeting of the 3rd Philippines-India Joint Defense Cooperation Committee (JDCC) Meeting with Mr. Bharat Khera, Joint Secretary (Planning) of the Ministry of Defense, India, which was held on 31 January 2020 at the Dusit Hotel, Makati City.

The JDCC serves as an important mechanism for both countries to implement the 2006 Agreement between the Government of the Republic of the Philippines and the Government of the Republic of India concerning Defense Cooperation. Moreover, the JDCC is an important venue to discuss global and regional security concerns as well as plan, implement, manage and monitor the defense cooperation between the two countries.

During the meeting, discussed were activities that could be undertaken by both defense and military establishments with the end goal of enhancing defense cooperation. Both sides also exchanged views on the situation in the Indo-Pacific region and opportunities for cooperation in multilateral fora. DND
