Navy’s elite group responds to help affected barangay in Batangas

The Philippine Navy (PN) through its elite force, the Naval Special Operations Group (NAVSOG) answered to the call of duty as they stood side by side with the communities affected by the Taal Volcano eruption.

Team NAVSOG together with its partner foundation, Compassionate Heart In-all Times (CHIT) Foundation Inc. arrived last Saturday, January 18 in Batangas to distribute relief goods intended for recipient barangays and evacuation centers in towns near Taal Volcano. The donations include but not limited to, toys for the kids, meals and bottled waters intended to the residents affected by this calamity.

Access on the road challenged the group as thick volcanic ashes still covered the roads and debris not totally cleared the area. Sulfur like smell is still present which indicates on the presence of volcanic ash in the air.

Barangay Miranda in Talisay, Abiacao San Martin Multipurpose Gym and Barangay in Abiacao San Luis in Batangas were all the recipients of the 1,000 relief goods distributed to at least 300-500 affected families in the said barangays.

All in all, over athousand adults and 400 children were given relief goods that include toiletries, diapers, umbrellas, blankets, clothes, laundry soap, toys & candies, and water. Additionally, all evacuees were also given cooked food as part of feeding program conducted by the group.

Apart from NAVSOG, different PN units also carries out the PN “Tulong TAAL” efforts in partnership with different stakeholders to be distributed in the in various evacuation centers in order to aid thousands of Filipinos displaced by this disaster.

This is in response to the call of the government where the Flag Officer In Command, Philippine Navy, Vice Admiral Robert A.Empedrad stated, “Your Philippine Navy is always ready to extend help to our Kababayans.
