Navy ships render rescue, assistance operations to distressed cargo vessel


BRP Rafael Pargas (PC379) and BRP Ismael Lomibao (PC383) of Naval Task Unit 71.2 under the operational control of Naval Forces Eastern Mindanao (NFEM) rescued and assisted the distressed cargo vessel MV Don Charles Robert at Arangasa Island, Surigao Del Sur on June 8, 2020.

The Commander, NTU72.1 Cdr. Wendelboy Z. Buntag who also serves as the Commanding Officer of PC379 and Cdr. Reynante B. Ma-ao the Commanding Officer of PC383 spearheaded the rescue and assistance operations.

Upon receiving the directive, PC379 and PC383 immediately proceeded to the vicinity of the said distressed cargo vessel which is originated at Davao and its port of destination is at Cebu.


Also, the said cargo vessel incurred derangement on her main engine and she’s dead in the water at vicinity 5NM SE off Arangasa Island, Surigao Del Sur where it is located on the eastern side fronting the Pacific Ocean and distress due of mechanical breakdown.

This mission demonstrated the Philippine Navy’s readiness and promptness in Search and Rescue Assistance whenever and wherever our people need us.
