A local terrorist group member was killed in an encounter in Barangay Maligay, Patikul, Sulu at 9 a.m., September 28, 2020.

“We, at the armed forces, are maximizing our capabilities to address the different security challenges in our area of operation,” said Lt. Gen. Corleto Vinluan, Jr., WestMinCom Commander.

While operating in the hinterlands of Patikul, troops of the 45th Infantry Battalion encountered more or less 30 local terrorist group members.

A heavy firefight ensued which lasted for 50 minutes after which enemies withdrew towards east direction.

“We immediately deployed more troops to establish blockade and pursuit operations,” said Brig. Gen. Ignatius Patrimonio, 1102nd Infantry Brigade Commander.

While scouring the encounter site, troops recovered the cadaver of the slain LTG member, and several war materiel and personal belongings.

“The enemies possibly incurred more casualties as evident in the bloodstains scampered in the encounter site,” said Lt. Col. Ruben Guinolbay, 45IB Commander.

Troops are in hot pursuit of the fleeing bandits.

“We degraded the terrorists’ manpower and capability to carry out their hostile plans and we continue to sustain the momentum to constrict their movements,” said Brig. Gen. William Gonzales, JTF Sulu Commander. WESTERN MINDANAO COMMAND
