President Rodrigo Duterte on Tuesday praised outgoing Philippine Navy chief Vice Admiral Giovanni Carlo Bacordo for his “valiant and dedicated” service during his stint as head of the naval force.
Duterte, in a taped message during the Philippine Navy’s change of command rites, hailed Bacordo’s efforts to serve and protect the country.
“My warmest greetings to Vice Admiral Giovanni Bacordo as you celebrate your 56th birthday. In behalf of our grateful nation, let me thank you for your valiant and dedicated service in the Philippine Navy as you finally hung the uniform that you have proudly worn for decades,” Duterte said.
Bacordo reached the mandatory retirement age of 56 on Wednesday.
He was replaced by Rear Adm. Adeluis Bordado whose appointment takes effect also on Wednesday, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said in a virtual presser.
Bacordo, a member of the Philippine Military Academy Class of 1987, was picked by Duterte to lead the Philippine Navy in February last year.
Duterte acknowledged Bacordo’s contributions to the modernization of the Philippine Navy.
“Let us recognize your important contribution in strengthening our Navy in pursuing the AFP Modernization Program and in touching the lives of the men and women that serve under you,” he said.
He expressed hope that Bacordo would enjoy continued success after his military service.
“With renewed chapter unfolding in your life, I wish you continued success and more meaningful years ahead. Happy Birthday. Maraming salamat sa iyong serbisyo sa ating bayan. Mabuhay ka!” Duterte said. PNA.GOV.PH
