DPWH builds Shore Protection in Agoo, La Union

Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark A. Villar announced that the Department has completed two (2) new shore protection works along the northernmost coastal areas in Agoo, La Union.

“We have constructed shoreline structures or groins along Barangays Sta. Rita Sur and Sta. Rita Central to serve as protection against coastal flooding,” said Secretary Villar.

Based on a report from DPWH La Union Second District Engineer Gil B. Lorenzo, Secretary Villar said that the project involved construction of five (5) units of fifty (50)-meter shore protection works (groins) with a total cost of P23.5 million funded under the 2020 General Appropriations Act (2020).

The two (2) barangays located at the northernmost part of the Municipality of Agoo were identified by the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (MDRRMO) as prone to storm surge especially during typhoon season.

“We are confident that with protective infrastructure like this, residents and even tourists can be safe in the booming surfing spot of La Union,” added Secretary Villar. DPWH.GOV.PH
