Army troopers kill three suspected Abu Sayyaf suicide bombers

Troops of the 11th Infantry “Alakdan” Division (11ID), while manning a checkpoint, engaged in a firefight three suspected Abu Sayyaf suicide bombers resulting in their deaths on November 5, in Barangay Kan Islam, Indanan, Sulu.

Acting on intelligence reports that the terror group will conduct suicide bombing attacks, the 41st Infantry Battalion under the 1102nd Infantry Brigade immediately set up checkpoints in their area of responsibility and alerted all units to thwart the terrorists’ sinister plots.

The three terrorists were on board a motorcycle coming from Maimbung area when they opened fire, prompting the troops to return fire and engaged the terrorists in a brief gun battle that lasted for five minutes.

Recovered from their possession are two bomb vests, a cal .45 pistol, and a hand grenade.

“With the help of the people of Sulu and the timely information passed on to us, we were able to intercept the whereabouts of these terrorists and also enabled us to deploy our soldiers accordingly. The success of this operation will further motivate us to work even more closely with the local government of Sulu, and especially its people in the pursuit of lasting peace,” said Maj. Gen.
