Army engineer battalion builds a mosque in Sultan Kudarat

The 549 Engineer Battalion facilitated the completion of the construction of a mosque inside the 601st Infantry Brigade headquarters in Barangay Kalandagan, Tacurong City, Sultan Kudarat.

The “Unifier” Mosque or “U-Mosque” is a project initiated by Lt. Gen. Cirilito Sobejana, the Commanding General of the Philippine Army, in partnership with the Southwestern Liguasan Marsh Alliance of Municipalities (SLAM) which includes Datu Paglas, Sultan Sa Barongis, General Salipada K Pendatun, Paglat, and Pagalungan.

This project was conceptualized to build a place of worship for our Muslim brothers and sisters in the 601stInfantry Brigade (601IBDE), 6ID, PA.

On August 21, 2020, a meeting was held at the 601IBDE headquarters which was presided by the unit commander Brig. Gen. Roy Galido and was attended by 54th Engineer Brigade Commander Brig. Gen. Anthony Cacayuran and the local chief executives. The attendees pledged to support in the completion of the U-Mosque.

On the same day, Lt. Col. Lorvina Lamug, the newly-installed Battalion Commander of the 549th Engineer “Kapayapaan” Battalion (549EB) was tasked by Brig. Gen Cacayuran to expedite the Construction of the U-Mosque in 28 days.

The 549EB is mandated to perform vertical and horizontal construction projects for the Philippine Army and in support the socio-economic program of the government.

After a systematic engineering construction work, the U-Mosque was completed on October 6, 2020. The inauguration of the Mosque was attended by Governor Suharto “Teng” Mangudadatu, Governor of Sultan Kudarat, and Bai Mariam Sangki-Mangudadatu, Governor of Maguindanao held on October 9, 2020.
